Upcoming Workshops 2018-2019

Come study ceramic sculpture with me in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico!

San Miguel, in the mountains of central Mexico, is known for its history, its art, its food, its music, its walkability, its charm.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Miguel is full of museums, galleries, studios, shops, festivals, parades and multiculturalism.

Estudio Paloma is a fully equipped studio and your hours outside the workshop can be filled with all that San Miguel has to offer.

The Workshop / Observing the Human Condition

In this workshop, we will spend our mornings working with a Life Model, honing our observational practice of gesture, contour, proportions, and the complex interaction of forms that make up the human figure.  In the afternoons, we will each work on a personal artwork, exploring the expressive potentials of sculpting human beings.

I will give several demonstrations throughout the week on working with the figure in clay. Demonstrations will include large coil building, bas-relief, and portrait sculpture. The sessions with the live model will be done in solid clay, which will be hollowed later. The personal projects will be built hollow with coil and/or slab building techniques. Idea development will be discussed, but please come prepared with a few sketches of ideas and visual reference materials.

Workshop Fee:  $800
