Upcoming Workshops 2018-2019

Come study ceramic sculpture with me in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico!

San Miguel, in the mountains of central Mexico, is known for its history, its art, its food, its music, its walkability, its charm.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Miguel is full of museums, galleries, studios, shops, festivals, parades and multiculturalism.

Estudio Paloma is a fully equipped studio and your hours outside the workshop can be filled with all that San Miguel has to offer.

The Workshop / Observing the Human Condition

In this workshop, we will spend our mornings working with a Life Model, honing our observational practice of gesture, contour, proportions, and the complex interaction of forms that make up the human figure.  In the afternoons, we will each work on a personal artwork, exploring the expressive potentials of sculpting human beings.

I will give several demonstrations throughout the week on working with the figure in clay. Demonstrations will include large coil building, bas-relief, and portrait sculpture. The sessions with the live model will be done in solid clay, which will be hollowed later. The personal projects will be built hollow with coil and/or slab building techniques. Idea development will be discussed, but please come prepared with a few sketches of ideas and visual reference materials.

Workshop Fee:  $800

Come Sculpt With Me in Tuscany in June 2017!

La Meridiana International School of Sculpture Presents

FIGURATIVE CERAMIC SCULPTURE
Inspirations from the Italian Renaissance and Beyond

A Ceramic workshop in Tuscany with

LISA REINERTSON  -  JUNE 4th – 17th 2017

The Workshop

In this workshop Lisa Reinertson will guide students in an exploration of figurative ceramic sculpture inspired both by working from life, and by the great figurative sculptures of the Italian Renaissance.

To get the inspirational juices going, we will begin the week with a visit to Florence and the Bargello Museum to see the amazing sculptures of the Italian Renaissance including works by Donatello, Michelangelo, and Della Robbia.

In the studio, we will spend our first five mornings working with a live model, doing figure studies in bas-relief, and small 3-D figure studies. In the afternoons, we will each work on a mid-size hollow built sculpture inspired by the artwork seen in Florence. Lisa will work alongside the students providing demonstrations, and plenty of one on one feedback.

While your work is firing, we will visit Florence again and see Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia.
